Colon hydrotherapy, also called colonics, colon irrigation or a colon cleanse, is a gentle, drug-free way to rinse the large intestine with warm, purified water to help remove built-up waste. At Natural Medical Solutions Wellness Center in Roswell, GA, it is performed by a trained therapist in a private, comfortable setting as part of a whole-person approach to digestive health and detoxification.
If you struggle with bloating, irregularity, sluggish digestion or that constantly “weighed-down” feeling, a colonic can help your digestive system do its job more comfortably, and it is a popular first step before a detox or weight-management program.
The practice is ancient: using water to cleanse the colon (“colon lavage”) dates back to at least 1500 B.C. in ancient Egypt. Today it is refined into a safe, sanitary, professionally supervised therapy.
Wondering what actually happens during a colonic? Here is the step-by-step. Most people are surprised by how relaxed and dignified it is:
Want the details on the technology and methods? Our blog explains the LIBBE colon hydrotherapy system, the difference between open and closed colonics, and how a colonic differs from a colonoscopy.
At Natural Medical Solutions Wellness Center we use the LIBBE (Life Body Balance) system, a modern open-system colon hydrotherapy device. Open-system means you stay in control of the session, in privacy, rather than being dependent on the therapist for every step.
With a closed system, a therapist inserts a larger speculum and controls the fill-and-release cycles, with waste travelling out through a hose. With the open-system LIBBE, you insert a much smaller tube yourself and release continuously and naturally, with far more privacy. Many people find the open system gentler, more comfortable and less clinical. Read our full comparison of open and closed colon hydrotherapy, or our complete guide to the LIBBE machine.
Everyone is different, but clients most often seek colonics to support:
Colon hydrotherapy is a complementary wellness therapy, not a treatment or cure for any disease. We will always help you set realistic expectations based on your individual health.
Colonics may be a good fit if you experience sluggish digestion, chronic bloating or irregularity, or if you are preparing for a structured detox or cleanse. They are often part of a broader plan that may also include gut-health support and heavy-metal detoxification.
Colon hydrotherapy is not right for everyone. It is generally not recommended during pregnancy or with certain conditions (such as active gastrointestinal disease, recent bowel surgery, severe hemorrhoids, or kidney or heart disease, among others). That is exactly why we begin with a health review, your safety comes first.
When performed by a trained therapist using modern, sanitary equipment, colon hydrotherapy is generally well tolerated. At Natural Medical Solutions we use single-use, disposable supplies, temperature- and pressure-controlled water, and a professional protocol aligned with International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy (I-ACT) standards. A pre-session health screening helps us confirm the therapy is appropriate for you.
