      Detoxification

In short: detoxification at Natural Medical Solutions in Roswell, GA is a gentle, doctor-guided way to support the systems that already do this work, your liver, kidneys, gut and lymph, using personalized nutrition and lifestyle rather than harsh cleanses. It pairs naturally with colon hydrotherapy, heavy-metals detox and digestive-health support.

Between the chemicals used to grow, prepare and store food and the state of the water and air, toxins reach us faster now than they ever have. Avoiding them entirely is not realistic. Limiting your exposure is, and so is making use of the methods available for detoxification, some of them very old and some of them recent.

What you will find with Dr. Gail Ravello and her team at Natural Medical Solutions Wellness Center is a detoxification protocol built for you rather than pulled off a shelf. If you are ready to feel better, call us at (770) 674-6311 or contact us online and we will work out where to start.

      What is Detoxification?

Detoxification means clearing toxins out of the body to improve health. Sometimes that means removing those toxins from your immediate environment or your food. Other times it means cleaning out what the body has already absorbed and stored over years. The methods run from ancient practices such as fasting through to modern detox supplements.

Fad detoxes and cleanses get plenty of attention, with a celebrity attached to every brand, but detoxification as an approach to healing is centuries old. Traditional Chinese medicine uses it, and so does Ayurveda in India. Fasting, or restricting particular foods on particular days, runs through a great many religions both ancient and modern.

Using water to cleanse tissue through the colon, once called “colon lavage,” goes back as far as 1500 B.C. in ancient Egypt. At Natural Medical Solutions Wellness Clinic we call it Colon Hydrotherapy, and it is one of several methods, old and new, that we use to detox the body.

What Types of Toxins Are Most Dangerous?

Toxic substances reach us every day, from pesticides on food to whatever is in the air and water, and from the things we handle without thinking, dryer sheets, cigarettes, the chemicals sprayed onto clothing and bedding. Most people have no idea how many toxins ordinary household products and ordinary habits add to their total toxic load.

Some of the worst offenders are heavy metals, arsenic, lead, mercury and cadmium among them. They get in through routes nobody thinks to check, tap water, pesticide residue, even silver fillings. The daily exposure to these toxins is one problem. The bigger one is that the metals accumulate, and the damage builds quietly over years.

Toxic chemicals and environmental toxins can act quickly, slowly, or both at once. Someone who inhales solvents at work, or simply gets them on their skin, might notice nothing worse at first than a headache that passes. Years later the picture can be permanent damage to the liver or kidneys. The longer-term consequences also reach the immune, nervous and reproductive systems, and in some cases cancer.

With a particularly potent toxin, or a large enough dose, acute poisoning can happen. Symptoms run from allergic reactions through digestive upset, and at the far end, death.

What Conditions Can Benefit from Detoxification?

Naturopathic doctors treat patients across any disease state, and detoxification helps in almost every medical condition. Some conditions are caused outright by toxins, and those can clear quickly once the toxin load comes down. Others are not caused by toxicity but are made considerably worse by the inflammation it brings.

Some of the many conditions a personalized detoxification protocol may help include:

With allergies, Dr. Ravello starts with a blood test for food allergies and intolerances, because that result shows both what to change in the diet and how to support the liver. Toxins drive inflammation, and inflammation gets in the way of the immune system doing its job. Looking at the whole body means correcting the thing that would otherwise produce a cascade of separate complaints sharing one root cause.

Detoxification is not only a treatment. Arguably its bigger value is preventative, heading off conditions such as breast cancer before they develop. That matters most if a condition runs in your family and is one that detoxification can help guard against. In that case it is worth sitting down with Dr. Ravello to build a protocol around your own personal and genetic risk factors.

How will my Detoxification Plan Be Developed?

At Natural Medical Solutions Wellness Center, Dr. Ravello works holistically rather than symptom by symptom. The aim is to help the body heal whatever is wrong underneath, and to keep the next illness from arriving in the first place.

Your medical plan, and every treatment approach in it, is tailored to your health needs, taking account of physical, social, psychological, family and genetic factors. We may use any of the following:

Almost all of that starts with knowing what is actually there. We use functional medicine lab testing to answer specific questions before a program is built rather than after it, and our post on testing before a detox explains what each result changes.

Your own detoxification program, built to clear toxins from your body, is designed alongside everything above and may include:

      • Vitamins, supplements, herbal remedies
      • Colon Hydrotherapy

The plan is always built for you specifically, and that is what Dr. Ravello aims for at Natural Medical Solutions Wellness Center.

What can I expect in a Detoxification consultation?

Dr. Ravello treats the individual rather than the diagnosis. At the first consultation she asks a lot of questions and pays close attention to behavioral and physical symptoms, along with personality and emotional state. A physician trained in both Homeopathic and Naturopathic health will ask about your personal life, and there is a good clinical reason for it.

At your first consultation Dr. Ravello goes through your personal and family medical history. Expect questions about current symptoms, stress and daily habits. She usually performs a physical examination and may order lab work, and if she does she will explain what she wants and why before anything is ordered.

Dr. Ravello knows functional, homeopathic, naturopathic, integrative and conventional approaches well. Her goal is consistently the same: the most natural and least harmful route back to health. She looks for root causes, and works out precisely what has stopped functioning and needs attention.

      Frequently Asked Questions

What does a naturopathic detoxification program involve?
Rather than an aggressive "cleanse," our approach supports the body's own detox systems, liver, kidneys, gut and lymph, through targeted nutrition, hydration and professional guidance.
      Is detoxification safe?
Safe, effective detox support is individualized and professionally supervised. We do not recommend harsh, one-size-fits-all cleanses, which can do more harm than good.
How do I know if I might benefit from detox support?
Ongoing fatigue, brain fog, digestive issues and a high everyday toxin exposure are common reasons people ask about detoxification. An evaluation helps determine what is appropriate.
How long does a detox program take?
It varies by plan and goals, some people do a short reset over a couple of weeks, others follow a longer, gradual program. We set a realistic timeline at your first consultation.
Will a detox make me feel worse before I feel better?
A gentle, professionally guided program is designed to minimize that. Because we personalize the pace and support your liver, gut and hydration, most people feel steadily better rather than worse.
How is a naturopathic detox different from a store-bought cleanse?
Rather than a harsh, one-size-fits-all cleanse, ours is individualized and doctor-guided, supporting your body's own detox pathways through nutrition and lifestyle, with safety first.
